How do I use this site?

This site can be used several different ways. Of course, you’ll want to pick out exercise routines to use to get you in your best shape.  You’ll also want to check out our articles section for information on health, fitness, nutrition, and developing a positive mindset.  But, here’s our recommended process:

After joining, go to the “Getting Started” page to learn how we set up the workout programs for you (i.e. types, levels, requirements, etc.).  We also cover how to pick a routine based on your goals, interests, and level of ability.  There are a few links that connect you to pages where you’ll learn about properly progressing yourself through the various levels of workout routines as well as making exercise modifications if necessary.  Or, you could skip this step and go directly to the workout categories and begin a workout.

How do I choose a workout for myself?

Again, go to the “Getting Started” page and read on how to assess which workouts would best suit your goal, level of ability, and interests.

Where can I do these Xpress Workouts?

Xpress Workouts can be done most anywhere!  We've created workouts you can do at home with little or no equipment - i.e. using your own bodyweight.  Other workouts can be done in a fitness center that you'd find in most park districts, Gold's Gym, PowerHouse, Fitness 19 clubs, just to name a few.  We also have workouts you can do in major health clubs like Bally's, LVAC, 24 Hour Fitness, etc.  You will not be limited with our Xpress Workouts.

How long do I do a specific workout?

There are several factors involved with how long to stay with a particular workout program.  On average, you could do a specific workout for about 4-6 weeks before becoming accustomed to it and begin to reach a plateau.

There is much talk these days about varying your routine just about every workout to keep the body from getting used to it.  However, and this is widely overlooked, you must first acclimate yourself to doing an exercise with good form and control.  Your body needs to develop a neurological motor pattern to do an exercise effectively – that is, with controlled form.  It can take several workout days to have your nervous system and muscles develop neuromuscular control and memory.

When I get used to a specific routine do I just switch to more advanced program?

You could, however, if you read the progressions and/or intensity manipulations articles you quickly see that you can easily employ a simple technique to make an exercise or entire workout more difficult without adding more weight or switching to other exercises.

This is a great thing for those who do in-home workouts.  By simply altering the way you perform an exercise you can make it more challenging and continue to make progress without having to purchase new exercise equipment or changing your entire routine.

What about those other workout sites that have literally hundreds of workout routines?

"What good are 10,000 workouts if you only need one that works for you?"

Here’s my take on them – and, I’m speaking as a fitness professional who’s visited (and joined) those other sites.  The reason I chose to create the Xpress Workout site is to fill a need that they aren't providing - service!  That service is to have you successfully find a workout routine that meets your specific goals and needs. With those "other" sites they leave you feeling like you're trying to find a needle in a haystack.  We help you to find the right workout for your goals and also show you how to make modifications and adjustments to have it continue getting you positive results.

In addition, they don’t really teach anything to their customers.  There’s no educational component.  It’s just, “Here’s a thousand workouts...now go pick one and hopefully it will work for you!”  That’s not servicing customers to me.  You can also contact us to give your feedback so we can continue to improve upon our website.  After all, we designed it for you in mind!

Why Xpress Workouts?

Express Workouts are designed specifically for the purpose of offering everyone and anyone who wants to get in shape with quality workouts in a short period of time.

We’ve found that most folks skip workouts or put off doing them because of time constraints.  We’ve overcome this barrier for you by creating our express workouts that will take you less than 30 minutes to complete.  Many of them will only take you 15 minutes or less.

Why do Express Workouts?

Time efficiency – workouts will take you 20 minutes or less to complete.  Therefore, you can do them at times that you may have not had enough time to spare.

Get a full-body workout – you won’t spend valuable time hitting each muscle independently taking you hours to complete, but rather, with compound style exercises* that stimulate several muscles groups at a time so you can challenge the whole body.

*Compound exercises involve working muscles in groups rather than in an isolation fashion, e.g. leg squats that challenge your thighs, gluteus (butt), hamstrings, inner thighs, and calves versus a leg extension machine that only hits the front thigh muscle.

Builds muscle & tone while also effectively burning the fat – Express Workouts are proven to help build and shape your muscles while generating the physiological response to burn fat by increasing your metabolism not just during your workout but for hours afterwards!

Build “usable” Strength – with Express Workouts you’ll quickly attain functional, i.e. “usable” strength, not just beach or show-off muscles that are useless to you when you really need them.  Don’t worry though you’ll get usable muscles that will also make you look great at the beach!

When can you do express workouts?

  • In the morning before breakfast and/or work
  • During the lunch crunch – and have time to have lunch after
  • After work and/or before dinner
